The Pentax K1000 (originally marked the Asahi Pentax K1000) is an interchangeable lens, 35 mm film, single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. It uses a horizontal travel, rubberized silk cloth focal plane shutter with a speed range of 1/1000 second to 1 second, along with Bulb and a flash X-sync of 1/60 second. It is 91.4 milimetres tall, 143 mm wide, and 48 mm deep. It was finished in black leather with chrome trim only. However, the early production Pentax K1000 SE bodies had brown leather with chrome trim.The K1000’s extraordinary longevity makes it a historically significant camera, despite its very ordinary design. Although the K1000 was already obsolete when it was first released, its inexpensive simplicity was a great virtue and earned it an unrivaled popularity as a basic but sturdy workhorse, particularly suited to educating inexperienced photographers. The Pentax K1000 eventually sold over three million units.

I have used this camera in a variety of situations and it doesn’t disappoint. The pictures are clear, the zoom capability is a real advantage over the normal 3X optical zoom, and the closeups are awesome. Took pictures in the near-dark of historic potato houses and it brought these musty rooms to life. I could see in the picture what my eyes couldn’t see, without glare or unnatural looking light. I put the case on my belt, let the sweater hang over and can draw it out like a pistol. So different from the SLR days when tourist was written all over me. Also my blow-ups have been very clear, at least to 11×14. The only problem is the wash-out on the screen in a bright, sunny day. I learned to compensate for that by holding the camera away from my body and aiming under those conditions. Works about 80% of the time. One usually tries to avoid the sun anyway

Another reviewer had posted a photo of what was received in this kit, and I was a little hesitant to order…it just didn’t seem like everything listed as included was in the photo and I worried about getting my money’s worth. But I read the other reviews and most seemed happy with their purchase, so i went ahead and ordered, figuring I could return it if it wasn’t what I wanted. When I received the package, I was thrilled. Everything that was supposed to be there was, and I was impressed with the contents. There are TWO tripods in the kit and I had only seen one in the other reviewer’s photo. One is tiny, perfect for tabletop still photos (like pictures for a science project), and the second is full size, ready for those group portraits and whatever else. This kit was purchased to go along with my son’s first camera (also from Amazon, also a great buy)and it gave him everything he needs to get started with this new hobby. This kit was worth every penny and more!

I bought this Tamrac mini-bag to protect my Canon PowerShot SX110 IS, a point-and-shoot camera that is relatively large because of its powerful zoom and use of regular batteries. Since I use this camera primarily for specialty situations, I wanted a case/bag that could carry more than just the camera but that didn’t weigh me down. I found that the Tamrac is perfect for my purposes. Not only is the camera compartment relatively roomy (it can handle an even larger camera), it has an exterior, zippered pocket with a divider for spare batteries, memory cards, lens cleaner and cloth — anything small and portable, even an iPod with ear buds. I can even carry my Canon and my smaller Olympus in the one bag (the Olympus in the outer bag) as long as I don’t add anything else. The camera compartments is padded on all sides but the top. My favorite feature is the way the top closes as a hood over both compartments, thus shielding both from the elements — no seams or zippers are exposed at the top. The hood secures both by velcro and clip which enables you to do a quick close/open when you might use it but a more secure clip for traveling. The adjustable carry strap is long enough to wear across my chest and can be shortened to wear it like a fanny pack or around the neck.

Exterior dimensions, at its widest/highest: 6″h x 4″w x 3.5″ d. Camera compartment dimensions: 5″ h (with an extra inch of clearance from the hooded cover, 6 ” total) x 4 ” w x 2.5″ d. Zippered exterior pocket dimensions: 4″ h x 3.25″ w x 1 ” d. Because the case is nylon fabric, there is some flexibility in the dimensions — for example, a slightly fatter camera will likely fit as long as the exterior compartment isn’t stuffed or as long as it doesn’t hit the maximum height. The fabric is tough nylon, with tight stitching, and is lightweight without anything inside.

This bag is not intended as a mere case, nor is it large enough for a digital SLR with its lenses. Instead, it is designed to house larger digital point-and-shoots and a small number or accessories or personal items.

This is an item that might stay in your bag and not on the camera much of the time. That is, if your shooting where there is shade to shade the screen of your camera. But when you need this, you really need this. I bought my GF1 because I only shoot in RAW, and I don’t worry about JPEG. I shoot in RAW, because I sell my work to magazines, and I need the best file out of the camera that I can get. Lots of the time, I am shooting where the sun isn’t directly on the screen on the back of the camera, and so I don’t need the LVF1, but when you move to direct sun light, then you really are going to need this. Works great, and you could keep it mounted on the camera if you wanted to. There is a button on the side of the viewfinder that when you push, it moves between the camera screen or the LVF1 being what you view with. What that means, if that you don’t need to remove it to use the screen on the camera.
